Fergies midfield woes

So,it's trending on Twitter, it's all over the sport websites all day,Darren Fletcher is to take an "extended break" from football. Something Sir Alex and Man United definitely didn't want to have happen (nor Darren himself I'm sure) with United struggling in the centre of midfield at the minute. Fletcher, who is only 27,is suffering from ulcerative colitis, a chronic inflammatory bowel condition which will now take some time for him to fully recover from and could require surgery to fully cure it, depending how bad it is.

This come as a major blow to Sir Alex who is struggling to find a midfield capable of taking on the big guns with Phil Jones being thrown in there as a make shift partner to Michael Carrick, who to be honest,is not a world beater in midfield. Other attempts to add creativity have resulted in Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney being brought out of position and into the centre which to a point does work but then leaves other problems further up the pitch with the loss of Hernandez to injury and other strikers struggling to match the goalscoring prowess of the main two.

Now with Cleverley is set to return in the next couple of weeks and Anderson set to return in February for the run they will at least bolster Fergies issues in the middle of the park. You can't help feel however it's not enough. Sir Alex has to finally admit that buying in January is no longer just and an option but a necessity if he is to lift a trophy this season. A world class midfielder is needed to plug the gap that Paul Scholes left, someone to create a bit of magic and, along with Rooney up front, turn a game on its head and be a match winner. All the other big teams have at least one player playing in the middle,Spurs have Modric,Man City have Silva,Chelsea have Lampard and now Mata but to name a few.

Then again who am I to question the genius that is Sir Alex,if he wanted he would play David De Gea and Anders Lindegaaard in there and win the title. The main questions I feel will not be answered until May when we see who's going to get their hands on the precious Premier League crown.
